Production
The Merlot grapes are sourced from 15 hectares of vineyard at around 650m altitude, which experience very low levels of rainfall (25cm per year). There is careful management of the vineyard - the vines are trellis-trained, and canopy thinning and green harvest is used. The soil has a chalky stone layer over sand - low in nutrients. The wine is matured in American and French oak barrels for 4 months.
Tasting notes
Aromas of wild cherry and bramble fruits. The palate is smooth and elegant with blackberry and blueberry characters, and a touch of spice. There are further layers of dark plum fruit, mocha and hints of vanilla. Refreshing acidity balances the well-integrated oak and supple tannins.
